Dharlin Entertainment is committed to producing films for a global audience that enlighten viewers to the rich tradition of life in India and Southeast Asia. Dharlin Entertainment produces films in conjunction with Sivaji Productions and Prabhu Movies, both located in Chennai, India. Sivaji Productions specializes in providing in-country production facilities, staff, post-production and editing expertise to the international filmmaking community. These partnerships allow Dharlin Entertainment to produce high-quality feature films without the expense of transporting a full production staff and equipment to India.
The company is currently in pre-production for the feature-film, White Rainbow, to be shot in Chennai, India. White Rainbow will be DEI's most aggressive production to date due to the nature of the film which exposes the dire condition of India's widows. Principal photography for White Rainbow is scheduled to begin in December, 2003.
Dharlin Entertainment released its first full feature film, Ele, My Friend, a 1920s period movie about the friendship between a boy and a baby elephant, in 1993. Ele, My Friend is distributed by VCI Entertainment and was re-released on DVD earlier this year.
During 2002, the company optioned Dharan Mandrayar's original screenplay, Undisturbed, for potential studio release. Undisturbed is a story in the genre of Romancing the Stone about the attempts of headstrong anthropologist to gain access to an isolated aboriginal tribe.
Dharlin Entertainment is in post-production on the first of a documentary series entitled, What Does Love Have To Do With It, which examines the tradition of arranged marriage. The film is scheduled for release in early 2004.
